Salt of tears mixed with greens and mud,
bread of earth and breath and blood that is the first
water, the first fluid song from lips of earth,
from hips of hills and sacral canyons,
mouth of pearls and gems,
copper coasts, grains of sand of gleaming stars,
a waltz of waves, sun dance, a lap of flames. This
is one day and forever, first moment and only.
Tasting you, I feel your breath melt me down
to where I’m real, where
after tears only love and salt remain,
after years, seed oil, yeast, rose petals and whispers
scent fingertips, lifetimes strum ocean pulses,
alone together we are
sweat, seaweed, cypress, stone, we are
ginger, flesh, oak and bone, bed
of blood and breath, home that is the first
soil, the first planted seeds from our lips.
