Some kinds of tones hurt my skin.
I don't hear them in my ears
I feel them in my pores, my aura
absorbs them like jagged knives and they slice
my arms, flay my insides
Have you ever seen the cat
sprint away and hide?
That's what my spirit does
in those moments.
Even if I look defiant
Even if I sound resistant
Even if I act triumphant
a part of me has died
each time
the tone hits me
broadside
