September poem

Fall Equinox

Cobalt clear sky, brisk air greets morning eyes.
Glistening dew on asparagus ferns
suspends like frost, crystallized.

Thistledown on daughter’s cheek,
“soft” she whispers.

Summer heat settles, blows away with leaves.
Green fades slow yellow, slips into bronze.
Flowers are persistent celosia magentas,
meadows of goldenrod, harvest spectrums.

We hike dry creek beds,
sandstone, fallen boulders
while ferns and mosses crawl moist on cliffs,
in coves sheltered from autumn crisp.

We share a small fire built warm at dusk
one gift of log at a time.

Eyelash of a moon
glimmers through trees,
perched on edges of bluffs,
balanced by Equinox magic.
